Restarting your Android TV box isn’t just a “turn it off and on again” trick — it actually has several benefits that can keep your device running smoothly. Here are the main advantages:

🔄 Benefits of Restarting an Android TV Box
  1. Frees Up Memory (RAM)

    • Apps you’ve opened stay in memory even when you exit them. Restarting clears out all background processes and refreshes system resources.

  2. Fixes Temporary Glitches

    • If your box is lagging, freezing, or apps are crashing, a restart often resolves these temporary bugs.

  3. Improves Performance

    • Restarting can make the interface snappier and reduce buffering or slow navigation.

  4. Clears Cache & Background Processes

    • Many streaming apps (Netflix, YouTube, IPTV players, etc.) run background services. Restarting clears these and can prevent overheating or slowdown.

  5. Network Refresh

    • If your Wi-Fi or Ethernet connection drops, restarting often helps re-establish a stronger connection.

  6. Helps Apply Updates Properly

    • Some system or app updates don’t finalize until the device is restarted.

  7. Reduces Overheating

    • Constant use without restarting can cause heat buildup. Restarting gives the hardware a “reset,” which helps with stability.

  8. Extends Device Lifespan

    • Regular restarts can prevent long-term performance issues caused by memory leaks or overloaded processes.

👉 Best practice: Restart your Android TV box at least once a week if you use it heavily.

Below you will see a guide on how to restart your device from within the settings.

Step 1: Be on your TV home screen:

Step 2: Navigate over to the top right side of the screen to the ⚙️gear icon settings and click ok/select on it.

Step 3: From the settings page, scroll down to the System tab and click ok/select on it.

Step 4: Click on the system tab like in the image below.

Step 5: Scroll down to the bottom until you find Restart tab and click the ok/select button on it.

Step 6: Once you have clicked on the Restart tab, you should get the following screen.

Step 7: Click ok/select on Restart like in the image above and wait for the box to restart and boot back up.

Conclusion: Remember you should be doing this atleast once a week and if you can a hard reset is best. That is unplugging your boxes power cable for about 1 minute and plugging it back in.
